After an impressive opening weekend by the University of Guelph's men's and women's soccer teams, it is a pair of talented defenders sweeping the first Gryphon Athlete of the Week honours of the 2019-20 season. Sayan Ladhani, a third-year defensive midfielder on the women's soccer team, and Moses Kafeero, a rookie defender on the Gryphons men's soccer team, have been named Gryphon Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, September 1, 2019.

    GUELPH, Ont. - Knowing they had over a month long break from OUA action coming up after their match, both the Guelph Gryphons and Windsor Lancers emptied the tank Sunday afternoon at the GGAC in a five set thriller. After taking a 2-0 lead the in the match, the Gryphons ultimately held off the Lancers in a fifth set to secure their sixth win of the season going into the December break.

Playing host to the Windsor Lancers, the Gryphons came out in attack mode and remained that way all match long en route to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-20) victory.

However, despite knocking down 12 three-pointers as a team and a 25 point performance from Tommy Yanchus, the Gryphons ultimately fell 89-78 to the visiting Mustangs.
