VARSITY BLUES MEN WIN AT BROCK

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's cross country team came away with the gold medal at the Brock Invitational and had four runners finish in the Top 10 on Sat., Oct. 18 in St. Catharines.

Tyler Pettes (Aurora, Ont.) led the No. 4 Blues with a second-place individual finish in a time of 15:40. Fifth-year veteran Josh Smith (Chatham, Ont.) finished just behind Pettes posting a time of 15:42. Toronto natives Bart Van Veghal and Antum Pavelic finished in fifth and eighth place, respectively. Van Veghal finished with a time of 15:55 and Pavelic ran the race in 16:00 minutes flat.

Kiril Kompaniets (Murmansk, Russia) and Andrew Kennedy (Toronto, Ont.) also raced for the Blues. Kompaniets finished 13th with a time of 16:13 and Kennedy placed 21st recording a time of 16:37.

Chantel Maryun (Toronto, Ont.) was the only woman to race for the No. 2 Varsity Blues. She finished 32nd with a time of 13:18 in the women's 3 km race.

The Varsity Blues travel to Kingston for the OUA Cross Country Championship hosted by Queen's University on Sat., Oct. 25. The women get underway at 11 a.m. with the men to follow at 11:45 a.m.
