LONDON, Ont. – The Laurentian Lady Vees cross country team finished eighth out of twelve teams at the Western International on Saturday. The Lady Vees were led by 12th place overall finisher Gracie Tetzlaff (Trenton, Ont.) who ran 18:58 in the five kilometre race. Laurentian finished with 174 points, 131 points behind race winner Guelph.

The defending CIS champion Guelph Griffons were the class of the field as they finished with four runners inside the top ten including winner, Lindsay Carson (Cambridge, Ont.) who ran 17:19.

The Lady Vees improved their team score by 115 points from their total a year ago, and the team’s average time of 19:55 ties their best ever mark. The final score of 174 points is the second best all time at the Western International, which this year was held at the Thames Valley Golf Course in London, Ontario.

The Laurentian women were again led by rookies Tetzlaff, who finished second overall among first years by running her personal best, and Emma Tallman (Manitoulin Island, Ont.) whose time of 19:43 was good enough for 35th position. Madeleine Woods (Sudbury, Ont.) finished 36th as she crossed the finish line with the same time as her teammate. Veterans Meghan Juuti (Elliott Lake, Ont.) and Maggie Woods (Port Perry, Ont.) rounded out Laurentian’s scoring with times of 20:37 and 20:38 respectively.

"Gracie was very aggressive at the start," said head coach Dick Moss. "But she's tough as nails and just refused to fade. To run under 19 minutes on this course is exceptional for a rookie."
