OUA M-RUGBY ROUNDUP: ALEXANDER LEADS BADGERS PAST MUSTANGS

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – The Brock Badgers men’s rugby team held off a charging Western Mustangs offence to win a close one, by the final score of 18-13.

The Badgers were fired up early once again, coming out with obvious intensity off the opening kickoff. Great defensive pressure from the back line forced a penalty by the Mustangs deep in their own end. Rory McDonell (Brantford, Ont.) put his team ahead by 3 with an easy penalty goal.

It seemed that points off of penalty kicks would be the trend of the match, as Pete Jawl (Victoria, B.C.) of Western connected on an attempt to lock the score at 3-3. This was shortly followed by McDonell hitting a long attempt from 42 yards out, putting the Badgers back on top 6-3, a position they would not relinquish.

Stolen ball off of a Mustang lineout deep in their end would end up in the hands of Levon Kvas-Rothwell (St. Catharines, Ont.) and he would take it over the line for the first try of the day. McDonell would make the conversion.

Shortly thereafter, a beautiful chip kick by Hugh McDonell (Brantford, Ont.) would send Badger Matthew Alexander (Oshawa, Ont.) streaking down the field for what would be the game-winning score.

The Mustangs would not be held back, however, as Cameron Wilson (Uxbridge, Ont.) would break through the Badgers line and touch it down for the score. Conversion was successful by Jawl.
