MEN: Windsor Lancers – Soccer
The Lancers men's soccer program was on a rampage throughout September, going 6-1-1 over the course of the month.
After a pair of solid wins in August to start off the season, the Lancers kicked things into gear during September, knocking off Waterloo, Laurier, Algoma twice, Western, and most importantly, defending national champions York, after drawing level with them earlier in the month.
Midfielder Leighton Speechley-Price (Lymington, England) scored eight goals in the month of September and currently leads OUA in goals with 10
The Lancers averaged 3.4 goals for in the month of September while only allowing four goals against in 8 games for a 0.53 GAA.
With only five games left in the regular season and Windsor four points ahead of second place McMaster Marauders, expect to see the Lancers make a deep run into playoffs.
The Lancers return to action on Friday when they host the Guelph Gryphons at Alumni Field in Windsor, Ont.
WOMEN: Laurier Golden Hawks – Soccer
The Golden Hawks ran through the rest of the league last month, going undefeated over the course of September with a record of 6-0-1.
Laurier currently lays claim to the top two goal-scorers in the league in Emily Brown (13) and Nicole Lyons (11), who netted 7 and 4 goals respectively in the month of September.
Backstopping the Golden Hawks is rookie keeper Ashley Almeida, who collected two September shutouts and currently sits tied for first in wins (7). Almeida recorded six of her seven wins last month.
The well-balanced Laurier squad averaged 2.6 goals for in September compared to only nine goals against in their seven games.
Laurier takes on the York Lions this week in a battle for first place in the OUA West division, with the winner taking a three point advantage into the last four games of the season.
