Roberts, El-Chanti named Investors Group Athletes of the Week, powered by Planters

Burlington, Ont. – Stephanie Roberts and Abdallah El-Chanti have been named Investors Group Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Athletes of the Week, powered by Planters, for the period ending August 26, 2018.

Female Athlete of the Week – Stephanie Roberts (Ottawa, Ont.) –4th Year – McMaster Marauders

It was a winning way to start the season for the McMaster Marauders, and while the team as a whole stood out on the pitch, one player shone especially bright.

Stephanie Roberts opened her fourth season as a Marauder in style, as the forward from Ottawa enjoyed her best weekend in maroon to kick off the OUA season. Roberts scored a first half hat trick in Mac’s opening match at Ron Joyce Stadium on Friday, striking in the 27th, 39th, and 45th minutes to pave the way to the team’s eventual 4-1 win over Laurier.

She was back at it on Sunday when the Marauders hit the road to take on the Warriors, as Roberts provided the first of two goals for McMaster on the day as part of the team’s 2-0 shutout over Waterloo.

Male Athlete of the Week – Abdallah El-Chanti (Toronto, Ont.) – 3rd Year – Ryerson Rams

It’s always nice to get your season off on the right foot, and Abdallah El-Chanti did just that during the Ryerson Rams pair of wins this weekend.

The third-year midfielder got his season underway quickly in the Rams’ opener on Saturday, scoring the team’s first goal just eight minutes into the contest en route to their 2-1 victory over the UOIT Ridgebacks.

El-Chanti went above and beyond in the second game of the weekend; however, powering his team to a 12-0 victory over the Trent Excalibur. For the game, the Toronto native had an eye for the net, demonstrating his scoring touch early and often. It took El-Chanti just nine minutes to net three goals for the Rams, before adding his fourth and final tally in the 15th minute.

For his efforts, El-Chanti now sits just two goals shy of his season mark from a year ago (7).
