MALE: Ross Proudfoot (Sudbury, Ont.) –
5th yr. – Guelph Gryphons – Cross
The Guelph Gryphons cross-country dynasty continued to soar at the OUA Championships, and fifth-year athlete Ross Proudfoot was a huge reason why.
Proudfoot took home the men’s individual gold medal, leading the Gryphons to a sweep of the top four places. It was the Gryphons 10th consecutive men’s team championship, one of the most successful runs in the history of OUA sport.
The fifth-year senior will go down as one of the all-time greats in OUA history. His impressive resume boasts two individual championships, two second-place finishes, and five team championships. His lowest result came in his rookie season when he finished in fourth place.
FEMALE: Sarah Dunning (Kitchener, Ont.) – 3rd yr. – Toronto Varsity Blues – Golf
The Toronto Varsity Blues captured a third consecutive OUA team women’s golf championship thanks to some amazing play by Sarah Dunning.
Taking place at the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club on Oct. 20-21, the third-year math major captured the individual championship by three shots with a two-round score of 149. Dunning put together a first round score of 76 and followed it up with a tournament low of 73 in the second round.
As a team, the Blues shot a combined score of 461, a whopping 23 strokes ahead of the silver-medal winning Western Mustangs. After the tournament, Dunning was named an OUA First-Team All-Star.
