HAMILTON, Ont. - The following athletes have been named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Athletes of the Week for the period ending August 30th, 2015.
FEMALE: Shynice Williams (Mississauga, Ont.) – 2nd yr. – UOIT Ridgebacks – Soccer
Hats were flying at Vaso's Field in Oshawa, Ont. on Saturday as UOIT Ridgebacks striker Shynice Williams scored three goals, as the Ridgebacks defeated the Nipissing Lakers 6-0 to open the 2015 season.
Last season, it took the second-year health sciences student until Oct. 11th to tally three goals.
In 16 games last year, Williams scored five goals.
Williams and the Ridgebacks return to action on Sept. 12-13 when they head to Ottawa to take on the Ravens and the Gee-Gees.
MALE: Adam Hemati (Vaughan, Ont.) – 3rd yr – Ryerson Rams – Soccer
Adam Hemati scored the Ryerson Rams lone goal in their opening game of the season to propel the team to a 1-0 victory over their crosstown rivals, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues.
Hemati, a third-year accounting and finance student, fired home a rebound into the back of the net in the 77th minute to give Ryerson the victory.
Last season, Hemati scored two goals in eight games for the Rams.
Ryerson is back on the pitch Sept. 5 when they pay a visit to Kingston, Ont. to take on the RMC Paladins.
